Scientific Miracles in the Noble Prophetic Hadith
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Hell will be brought on that Day with seventy thousand reins; with each rein there will be seventy thousand angels pulling it. Then the bridge (As-Sirāt) will be laid across Hell, and I will be the first among the messengers to cross with my nation. On that Day, none will speak except the messengers, and the speech of the messengers on that Day will be: O Allah, grant safety, grant safety.
In Hell there will be hooks like the thorns of Sa‘dān. Have you seen the thorns of Sa‘dān?” They said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. He said: “They are like the thorns of Sa‘dān, but none knows their عظمت (magnitude) except Allah. They will snatch people according to their deeds: some will be destroyed because of their deeds, while others will be cut and then saved.
People will pass over the bridge according to their deeds: some will pass like lightning, some like the wind, some like swift horses and riding camels. Thus, some will be safe and sound, some will be scratched but released, and others will be piled into the Fire of Hell.”
This is reported in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, from the narration of Abū Sa‘īd al-Khudrī (may Allah be pleased with him). It also includes the companions asking about the meaning of passing like lightning.
They said: O Messenger of Allah, what does it mean to pass like lightning?
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Have you not seen how lightning passes and returns in the blink of an eye?”
